One of the Otway Residents has designed this Logo of Protest to represent the voice of the platypus, in opposition of Barwon Waters proposed pumping of artesian groundwater from the Gellibrand Kawarren aquifer. The platypus is one representation, of the many species that will come under threat if Barwon Water chooses not to conduct an environmental impact study in this delicate ecosystem prior to pumping of the aquifer.
The logo will be printed onto t-shirts which are available soon- watch this space.
Platypus-Ornithorhynchus anatinus
I am remarkable and rare and make my home in the river and creek systems of the Otway Ranges. I am a monotreme, which means I lay eggs but suckle my young.I eat inscts, molluscs, and worms. I like to swim from evening to early morning when the bush is calm. I feel protective of my home which I share with many other remarkable species that are indigenous to the semi-tropical rainforest where I live.I am an indicator of the health of my ecosystem.I need you to hear my voice because my home is under threat.
